Read more »

Beyond YouTube: 8 YouTube functions you have never heard of

YouTube Live Header

A week ago YouTube announced and launched its long expected live streaming feature which allows selected partners to broadcast live for their YouTube audience. The YouTube live channel offers a discovery tool for live shows and integrates the live streaming capabilities. Although the platform is still in a beta phase and only available for selected partners, it is a next step of Google and YouTube to compete with content creators and live streaming services like Ustream.com, Justin.tv, but also traditional television. How to increase Facebook fans for your corporate Facebook Fanpage.

14-12-'10
Facebook Header

This is a quenstion that I ask myself all the time. For my work at ScanYours.com we have a lot of customers that ask us to develop facebook fanpages for their company.

With a Facebook fanpage organizations can inform and interact with their customers in a more informal and direct way. The results of the use of Facebook Fanpages is amazing. You get feedback from your customers and get in touch with their actual needs. Besides that you increase commitment and even create leads, wheter your offer is B2C or B2B.

However, you need ‘fans’ to interact with in order to reach your goals. But where do you start? Read more »

Post Header: 'How-to'

Two years ago I bought an eeePC 1000H for all my e-mailing, webbrowsing and textwriting on the road. In addition, this netbook is a perfect tool to try out new software like the MeeGo 1.1 operating system. The eeePC 1000H is supposed to be supported completely by MeeGo 1.1 according to this page, but today I found out otherwhise. In this article I have combined information from many sources that helped me to get MeeGo 1.1 up and running on my eeePC 1000H. How to Create an Analytics Management Dashboard for your Website? – Part 2: KPI’s & Example Dashboards

09-08-'10

Last week I wrote about some basics of webanalytics dashboards and explained how to make nice visualizations with excel charts. In fact, I would like to stay at excel this week as I’m getting more and more convinced of the enormous database potential the program offers. Some excel-advantages I discovered during my dashboard journey:

  • It corresponds perfectly with data from major webanalytics tools (like Google Analytics or WebTrends)
  • Information can be easily published in PDF
  • Ease month-to-month (or year-to-year) analysis: define statistics, set targets, make a format and every month can be directly analysed
  • Avoid people accessing the original web analytics tool (because these reports are often not usable for presenting the essential information compared to the dashboard)
  • Include comments for evaluating reasons
  • Choose from an enormous pool of free excel plugins different tools for fancy charts, specialized templates, tutorial software and other add-ons.

Ofcourse there are many more reasons for using excel – as also mentioned last week. But these above I really appreciate when executing such activities for a management board. If there are still some excel critics while reading this article, make a quick sidestep to discover if you’re making these mistakes ;)

Alright, now you’re totally convinced of using excel for business purposes. Let’s head on to this week’s subjects: what’s the essential information – or key performance indicators (KPI’s) – you want to report in the dashboard Read more »

Three common flaws in reporting sportnews on mobile devices

04-07-'10

Last Saturday, the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands was the city hosting ‘Le Grand Départ’ of the Tour de France 2010. Being a fan of bicycle races, I visited this big event and used my mobile phone to receive updates about the standings and the World Championship match (Germany – Argentina) as the match was played during the prologue of the tour. It was then that I realized that most of the (sport)news websites can improve their services dramatically in the coming years, as I noticed three common flaws while checking for live sportnews. In this article I cover the flaws I recognized, which hopefully inspires other people to work on solutions and thus improve online services. Read more »
